about

Waking up on November 2nd 2016 sucked for a lot of people.

When I woke up and checked the news there I experienced a strange mix of feelings – mostly stuff you’d expect like concern, anger, exasperation, etc.

There was also a small part of me going “Wow! This is interesting. Let’s see where this goes.”

It did not go well.

But the overarching emotion wasn’t anything “verb bad” or “exciting” or anything like that.

It was just a grim sense of inevitability.

That this is the way things are going.

A sort of depressing acceptance about the state of the world, the cruelty of humankind, the innate lack of kindness in the human condition and the pervasive nature of selfishness.

Confronted with this conflicting maelstrom of feelings I did what any normal person would do.

I wrote a sad song about a sex slave locked in a room forced to perform for thugs, businessmen and politicians.

It’s called “Strawberries.”

lyrics

Dunno when
can open my eyes again.
He's got you down
in the company of men again.

You crawl along the leaves
so you can be clean again.
The wretched snarl
eats up the earth beneath your feet again.

Now you can't come back
'till you feel your teeth again.
The crooked smile.
Will you leave this room again?

The strawberries on the wall.
This politician's ten feet tall.
There's blood down on your knees again.

His paradise runs deep.
You know the flavour of his meat
won't leave your mouth again.
